Lantern Parade.

Adequate illumination was crucial for the safety of the miners who would have depended heavily on visual cues to detect hazards associated with falls of ground, slips/trips/falls, moving machinery, and other threats to safely work.

To acknowledge this important element of Silverdale pit’s heritage, a series of community lantern making workshops, by B-Arts, took take place which culminated in an atmospheric lit lantern parade that took place around Heritage Park estate, which now sits on the former site of Silverdale Pit.
